Meet captain Gijs;

A true waterman they call him. You can find Gijs de Jong most of the time in, on or around the water. The sun in combination with the sea and the wind is always good for a person, "it set's you free and let you feel alive"; he says.

Gijs is a sailer from his young days, he started in the "Optimist", did a lot of experience on a catamaran (Dart 6000 competition class) and sailed around the Netherlands in a traditional wooden 14 square BM'er, Laser and Sunfish. Later he did tours with the Centaur and the Valk.

Gijs has been kitesurfing on high level for 15 years and gives instruction since 2005. He also windsurfs, dives and free-dives. 

​

Late 2015 the opportunity came by to buy his own 62ft sailing yacht. Aluma Sailing was born! Together with his father, mother, family and friends he did a full refit on the Aluma and made her ​ready for the ocean crossing from the Netherlands to Curacao. In the start of October 2016 they conquered the ocean.

Gijs creates an enthusiastic and relaxing atmosphere on-board and he talks proud about all of his sailing adventures around the world.

Because Gijs is both a licensed sailing-instructor and a kitesurf-instructor, it is possible to book sailing-lessons during the trip. From that moment you too can sail Aluma, together as a team!
